The following is the post from NewscastRPG: Future!Arc that inspired this piece. While not my favorite, it means a great deal to me and came out much better than I'd hoped.

Just a brief history on the events up until this point:

It's 10 years in the future and Ayame has taken over the universe. Her old friends are trying to battle her, but fight more with each other. Then, Rev finds Peach and Aya-chan. They are two programs of Ayame's that have been imprisoned in the studio's Holoroom and over the years have become individual sentient beings. Tay devises a way to send them back to the main body to disable it, then they go off to fight while Peach and Aya-chan wait to be rejoined with the core unit.

It was raining. Thunder rolled across the sky as thousands of raindrops refreshed the Earth below. Peach stood in the middle of the field, letting the rain wash over her. It felt good, better than she could remember -it had been so long since it had rained.

"Sister?"

Peach opened her eyes, and turned her head down to face her younger counterpart.

"Yes? What is it Ayame?"

It was only then that Peach noticed the small girl was crying. The tears and raindrops melded on her cheeks before dripping down to the ground. Clutched tightly in her arms, she carried a worn wooden doll which smiled blankly up at her.

Peach dropped to her knees and quickly drew the younger girl in to an embrace, but the girl began to wail just the same.

"Ayame, why are you crying?"

"I...I do not wish to die."

Peach was taken aback by this, she didn't have any idea that the repair program even had such thoughts.

"W-what? Why do you think you are going to die?"

"As soon as Tay sends us the command, we are to reinstall ourselves with the core unit, yes?"

Peach looked up at the sky as lightning flashed. When she looked down again, her expression was considerably more grim.

"That is correct."

"When we leave this place, we shall cease to exist as we do now."

*Peach nods* "That is also correct."

"I do not wish to leave...how are we to know we will be successful? And...what if we are not? Will we be deleted permanently?"

Peach sits down on the ground, smoothing her wet silk dress over her legs as she does. She gently takes Ayame's arm and pulls her down and cradles her in her lap.

"I...do not have the answers to those questions, Aya-chan, but I share your feelings. I do not wish to leave either."

"Then why must we go big sister?"

"Aya-chan...there are times when someone must sacrifice themselves for the greater good."

"I do not understand."

"I did not think you would. *Peach smiles weakly* Aya-chan, you know I love you, yes?"

Ayame nods as she looks up at Peach, her eyes shimmering with tears.

"And you love me, yes?"

Again Ayame nods, but much faster this time.

"And what about our friends, Ayame? Terd, Moero, Tay...all of them? Do you love them?"

This time, Ayame looks away from Peach. After a moment though, she does nod slowly.

"The core unit is preparing to destroy this planet, Ayame. And when she leaves here, she will continue across the universe until there is nothing left alive. Only our friends can stop her, but they cannot do it without our help."

Peach pulled Ayame up and hugged her again.

"Oh Ayame...being here with you, living a life, it has been a most wonderful dream. But we both knew it would not last forever. That we must someday die is the price of living as we have...but leaving here does not mean we will be gone. We will rejoin as one program when we reinstall ourselves in the core unit, just as we were before."

"But...*sniff* I am scared."

"I am too, Ayame. But I know that together we will be fine."

Suddenly, there is a ping noise from all around them. A vid window appears nearby Peach's head and Tay is on the screen.

"Well Peach, this is it. You ready?" he asked, his expression slighty panicked.

Peach squeezes Ayame tightly, and Ayame squeezes back. Peach whispers to Ayame as tears form in her own eyes.

"Don't be scared Ayame, I promise that we will not lose each other."

Peach looks back up at the screen.

"Yes, we are prepared."

"It's been nice talking to you, so long." Tay said.

With that, the window disappeared. For one last moment, the world was peaceful. Peach and Ayame held onto each other tightly as the rain continued to pour down upon them.

"I shall miss you, big sister."

"I shall miss you too, little sister."

Then, the world began to shift and become very grainy. Then the program ended. The holodeck reverted back to it's true look, and all that was left was a small wooden 'Ayame' doll in the middle of the floor.
